WU Organizes a pre-international internship activity " Walailak International Cooperative Education Camp 2022 for students interning overseas in Academic Year 2022
Walailak University led by the Office for Cooperative Education and Career Development organizes a one-day International COOP Camp 2022 for Walailak University students confirming internship offers and seeking internship opportunities overseas. Joining the events were students from 13 schools and experts in language and Thai culture from other departments in Walailak University.
On August 8th, 2022, at the Cooperative Education Building, Walailak Univresity, the office for Cooperative Education and Career Development arranged for students confirming and planning to apply for overseas internships. Over 19 students from multidisciplinary fields joined together to learn from experienced experts and knowledge sharing among the camp participants. On this occasion, Dr. Attanan Tachopisalwong, Director of the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, presided over the opening and gave a remark emphasizing the importance of self-directed learning and courage to step out of the comfort zone by seeking for opportunities to work as part of multinational and multicultural team in an overseas organization. The director making a reference to Walailak University alumni also reiterated a success in future employability.
“The overseas internship as a scaffolding which assists the interns to progress in interpersonal skills, intrapersonal skills, growth mindset and future employability after graduation. With this experience, you will be more than ready for employment after graduating from a univresity,” said Dr. Attanan
The International COOP Camp 2022’s program is aimed to equip the students with skills easing their transition and living abroad, so camp activities were mostly practice-based divided into three session conducted by three invited experts. The morning workshop focusing on use of English needed in international traveling, immigration procedures and hometown tourism was led by Ms. Nootchanat Sukkaew, International Cooperative Alumni, Walailak University. The afternoon session leant toward cultural ambassador purpose through participation in two classes, Thai dancing led by Mr. Surin Jittawong, Thai dance mentor and Scientist from WU Botanic Park, and Thai food cooking class led by the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development team.
Ms. Sanghatai Khabklomsong, International Cooperative program coordinator, said that out of a total of 17 students joining the camp, over 10 students have confirmed their offers and will soon be interning in five different countries including Sweden, the United States, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
“This is an official transition back to onsite mobility in which the students get to travel after the restrictions have been lifted. The International COOP Camp has been instituted as a pre-international internship requirement because the university wants to ensure the student’s proper orientation toward living in an international community,” said Ms. Sanghatai.
This year, 17 students participating in the International COOP Camp 2022 are from several fields of expertise, namely School of Architecture and Design, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Management, School of Science, School of Accounting and Finance, School of Informatics, School of Allied Health and School of Public Administration and Laws. Mr. Alvaris Mahamad, Student from School of Accounting and Finance, reflected his excitement and potential integration of knowledge he had learned.
“I learned a lot from the activities all day long. It is both informative and fun. Thanks for the support from Walailak University and the Center for Cooperative Education and Career and Development,” said Mr. Alvaris.
